This is a tough one to answer to be honest.

I'm not entirely sure how or why the "next Jaco" appears to be forming in Uvita rather than Dominical but one thing is for certain...Uvita is thriving!

Both villages have been dubbed 'sleepy' little villages however I think that Dominical has become more recognized by surfers and backpackers whereas Uvita is becoming more of a commercial centre (if I should be so bold). Throughout Uvita now you will find a couple banks, large supermarkets, furniture stores and even drive-thru fast food!

Maybe I am wrong but I believe one of the major setbacks for the Dominical area against Uvita, is the fact that the road through Dominical is not paved and therefore on hot summer days, the place is as dusty as a chicken coup on a hot August day in Texas! The businesses of the Dominical area have been calling for the municipality of Cortes to address this issue but to date nothing has been done about it.

On the flip side of the coin however, some residents of Dominical prefer the 'rustic' appeal that Dominical has and would prefer it stay that way. One thing though, as Dominical moves at a turtle pace, Uvita storms forward with new office buildings etc. being constructed everywhere you look.
