Torrential Rains Cut off Uvita

Uvita Highway :: Road collapse near Playa Ventanas

Uvita Suffers from Torrential Rains

Five days of steady torrential rains has crippled Uvita and the Southern Zone!

As you can see from the photo, the highway before Uvita, the section called Ventanas, has fallen in to the Earth via an enormous hole that the normally small creek, created during torrential rains.

The country over the past few days has suffered with Parrita feeling the worst of it. The area just near Quepos has in some places, over 3 feet of water inside homes and businesses. Cow and livestock are floating away with people having to wade out in it to just feed them.

Dominical has suffered also from the rains when landslides cut off routes to Panama and Ojochal. Last week there was even an accident whereas an enormous tree collapsed on to the highway killing the driver of the rig and totaling the vehicle.

As of this writing the rains continue...

Many sections of Costa Rica are on yellow alert and expecting to reach red levels in some locations of flooding rivers and landslides. The media is pointing the finger directly at Tropical Storm Tomas.
