Semana Santa. Holy Week. One week of festivities and fish. Why fish? Well the Ticos (Catholics) do not believe in eating any meat during Semana Santa. Thus this also creates a price surge in fish and basically everything else you could imagine.

The beaches during the week will become swelled with an immense amount of locals that flock from all ends of the country to head to the beach for Semana Santa.

Vacation rentals go through the roof during this week with many people looking for lodging to support their entire family and that also makes economical sense.

Unfortunately along with Holy Week comes tragedy as this week is the highest mortality rate of any other time during the year in Costa Rica. So be careful and have fun! Pura vida!
