Whales Tail

Uvita Whale Tail

With a vantage point best seen from the air, the Uvita beach transforms itself in to one of the most magnificent spectacles. At sea level, one might not notice what is naturally formed beneath their feet as they stroll along the Uvita beach.

Here in Uvita, Costa Rica there is a formation on the main beach whereas two bays come together to form nature's perfect rendition of a humpback whale tail. From above one can truly appreciate this beautiful beach and absorb the view of the waves lapping the outer edges of the tail like a whale breaching the surface of the ocean.Uvita Beach

Playa Uvita is part of the Marino Ballena National Park. Each year Uvita and the Marino Ballena National Park are blessed with the visits of the humpback whales from December to March and again from late July to early November. The area is also home to resident bottle-nose, spinner and spotted dolphins, hawksbill and olive ridley turtles and a variety of fish, birds, monkeys, insects, plant and tree life.

Punta Playa Uvita as it's often called amongst locals, can be walked best at low tide where you can enjoy the true splendor of this 1km wide sand bar. However for the adventurous types, you can venture in to the jungles above Uvita to enjoy a bird's eye view of the Whale's Tail of Uvita beach.
