Pavon Waterfall

Pavon Waterfall

A short distance south of Ojochal is the entrance to Pavon waterfall. Often overlooked by casual tourists who are unaware of this beautiful place, Pavon waterfall is one of the best kept secrets of the area. You won't find it in any books like Lonely Planet or the likes because this gem is spread via word of mouth amongst locals.

Pavon waterfall has no signs and no parking. If you are lucky you might just notice a Pavon Waterfall, Cortes, Costa Ricarickety hand painted sign mentioning waterfall (cascada) in Spanish but chances are unlikely. The tilapia farm across the road from the falls will offer to show you the path for a small "tip".

Pavon is certainly not the largest waterfall you'll see however it certainly will be one of the most unique. Naturally formed, Pavon drops between two massive boulders some 25' in height. And like a cherry on top, there is another large egg shaped rock centered between the large boulders. The waterfall drops behind the egg shaped rock making for a unique waterfall experience. Below is a calm pool for swimming with more pools downstream. There is even a smooth surface of rock downstream that one can body slide on in to the natural whirlpool below.
